Abbaye de Saint Hilaire

Abbaye de Saint Hilaire

The abbey was founded by Carmelite monks from Palestine in the 13th century. It is said that King Louis IX (Saint Louis) stopped there on his way back from the crusade in 1261. It went through eight troubled centuries of religious history. It was bought by the Bride family in 1961 and has been lovingly restored since 1975. Although private, it can be visited every day.
