Abbaye de Sénanque

Abbaye de Sénanque

Sénanque, sitting at the end of a huge lavender field, is a magnificent illustration of Cistercian art, with its pure, simple architecture in sandstones. It was founded by Cistercian monks in the 11th century. Six monks still live there in conditions of extreme rigour and frugality. The abbey, both immense and simple, exudes timeless spirituality. It is just as inspiring to architecture lovers. The bookshop offers an excellent selection of history books.
