Château de Lourmarin

Château de Lourmarin

One of the most beautiful Renaissance castles in Provence, it dominates the charming village of Lourmarin. Built in the 15th on the ruins of a medieval fortress, the castle was enhanced with a Renaissance aisle by Louis d’Agoult-Montauban in 1526. Spared in the French Revolution, it was however neglected by its successive occupants and left in ruin at the end of the 19th century. In 1920 the castle was bought by Robert Laurent-Vibert, an erudite industrialist, who led a vast restoration programme on the whole building. The interior is exquisitely remodeled and decorated in antique Provençal style, with a spectacular kitchen that takes us back to the time of banquets in past centuries. The Chateau offers a great list of cultural events throughout the year.
